Schönbrunn Gardetrakt

2009.06.18

VMA´s competition entry for conversion of the Schönnbrunn Info/Ticket Office located on the main palace grounds centered around inserting a new double curved triangulated steel-glass structure creating a vaulted daylight intensive interior space which sharply contrasts the existing Baroque interior yet builds upon the perspective principles used during this period. Kindergarten Schukowitzgasse

2009.04.18

VMA´s proposal for the design of a new passive house Kindergarten building projected a vibrant touch of modernism to the outer 21st district of Vienna. The briefing called for three groups of classrooms and secondary ancillary spaces for learning, playing and group activities. The concept incorporated three tubular forms housing the central classrooms with double height glass atriums used for the group spaces with direct access to outdoor terraces and playground facilities. The multi-colored pixel glass façade augmented the strict geometry of the structure and responded to the children´s world of kaleidiscope fascination.

EURO 2008 Media Tower

2008.06.15

European Football Championship 2008

The Urban Media Tower for ORF (Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) was a central urban feature for the four week activities surrounding the EM_2008 in Vienna, Austria. Strategically located adjacent to the Burgtheater the 17.5 meter multi-purpose temporary building incorporated a 60m² TV Studio, outdoor terrace, offices, technical spaces and three integrated LED video screens for live broadcast. Due to the planned five day construction phase and positioning upon the tram line tracks special consideration and intensive planning was necessary in reference to erecting the main modular structural frame, external aluminium cladding, and lighting/acoustic constraints in broadcast media. The glimmering metallic facade gracefully transformed the area surrounding the historic cultural landmark buildings into a contemporary trans-Europe public zone linked through a media event.
